Universal’s Snoop Dogg biopic just found its Biggie, and the casting comes with a music-family story almost too perfect for the movie.

SwayvoTwain, the recording artist born Michael D’Angelo Archer II and the son of D’Angelo and Angie Stone, has been cast as the Notorious B.I.G. in Snoop.

The role will mark his first major movie performance, placing him inside a film already packed with actors portraying some of the most recognizable figures in 1990s hip-hop.

For a first big screen assignment, playing Christopher Wallace is not exactly easing into the business.

The Casting Connects Two Generations of Black Music History

SwayvoTwain enters the project with a musical legacy of his own.

His parents, D’Angelo and Angie Stone, were two defining voices in neo-soul and R&B, and his own work has openly reflected their influence.

Now he is being asked to embody an artist from a different but overlapping corner of the 1990s music world.

Biggie was not simply another rapper in Snoop Dogg’s orbit. He was the face of East Coast rap during a period when the rivalry between East and West became one of the defining—and ultimately tragic—stories in hip-hop.

That gives the role weight even if Biggie is not the central character of the film.

Snoop Is Filling Out an Entire Rap Universe

Variety reports that Jonathan Daviss will play Snoop Dogg, with Myles Bullock as Dr. Dre, Camron Jones as Tupac Shakur, Algee Smith as Warren G and Tre Hale as Suge Knight.

Other cast members will portray Kurupt, Nate Dogg, the Lady of Rage, RBX and figures from Snoop’s Long Beach roots.

Craig Brewer, whose credits include Hustle & Flow, is directing. Snoop Dogg is producing alongside Brian Grazer and others, and the movie will incorporate music from Snoop’s catalogue.

Universal has dated the film for Aug. 6, 2027.

The Biggie Role Could Be the Casting Everyone Watches Closest

Music biopics live or die on recognition.

An actor can capture the emotional truth of a scene, but when the person being portrayed is as visually and vocally distinctive as Biggie, audiences arrive with an image already fixed in their minds.

SwayvoTwain therefore has two jobs: disappear into one of rap’s most recognizable icons while proving he belongs in a major studio movie.

The family connection will guarantee attention, but it will not guarantee the performance.

That is what makes the casting interesting.

The son of two celebrated musicians is not playing either parent. He is stepping into somebody else’s legend entirely.

If he gets it right, Snoop may introduce SwayvoTwain to a much larger audience than the one that already knows his last name.
