It was an unmistakable callback to the moment Doja appeared baffled when asked about Langley during Caleb Pressley’s Sundae Conversation.

The exchange began when Pressley asked Doja whether she was an “Ella’s Fella.”

Doja appeared genuinely confused.

When Langley’s name was clarified, that did not solve the problem.

Doja still said she did not know who she was.

That might normally be an unremarkable moment.

Except Langley currently has one of the biggest songs in America.

Her country hit “Choosin’ Texas” has spent an extraordinary 19 weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, making Doja’s lack of familiarity particularly surprising.

Doja Eventually Listened to the Song

The story then moved to Doja’s livestream.

After the original clip spread online, she listened to “Choosin’ Texas.”

Her verdict was mixed.

Doja acknowledged that Langley has a very pretty voice and recognized why the song could become an earworm.

But country music simply was not her taste.

She stopped listening before finishing the song and explained that disliking something personally does not mean she believes it is objectively bad.

That qualification is important.

Doja was dismissive of the music, but she did not say Langley lacked talent.

Ella Langley Chose Humor Instead of Outrage

Langley could have produced a defensive statement.

She could have pointed to the charts.

She could have encouraged the inevitable country-versus-pop culture war.

Instead, she made the moment into a joke.

That is probably the stronger response.

When your song has spent 19 weeks at No. 1, introducing yourself through your résumé is unnecessary.
