Ariana Grande ended the Eternal Sunshine tour with two stories happening at the same time.
One was professional: 41 shows were over, more than 630,000 fans had seen the run and Grande was preparing for a planned step back from public visibility.
The other was personal: Ricky Alvarez, once the ex-boyfriend permanently filed away inside “Thank U, Next,” was suddenly very much back in the picture.
Grande’s own tour-wrap video made that second point difficult to miss.
A Backstage Kiss Turned a Tour Recap Into a Relationship Update
People reported that Grande shared a behind-the-scenes video from the tour that included a sweet onstage kiss with Alvarez.
The clip arrived after months of signs that the two had rekindled their relationship and after Grande made the romance increasingly public on social media.
There is an almost too-perfect pop-story symmetry here.
Alvarez was one of the exes named in Grande’s 2018 breakup anthem “Thank U, Next.” During recent performances, she even changed lyrics associated with him, turning an old joke into something noticeably more affectionate.
Eight years later, the ex in the song has become the boyfriend in the tour montage.
The Tour Was Bigger Than a Normal Comeback
The Eternal Sunshine tour marked Grande’s return to a full live schedule after years in which film work, recording and the Wicked phenomenon reshaped her career.
She has described the tour as emotionally restorative, and the final London show closed a 41-date run across 10 cities.
That makes the timing of her planned break important.
Grande’s representative previously said she intended to step back from visibility following the tour. The decision has been framed as a planned effort to protect her well-being after sustained public scrutiny, not as a sudden retreat from her career.
She is still expected to support projects she has already completed, including the upcoming comedy Focker-in-Law.
Ricky Alvarez Reappears at the Exact Moment Grande Is Pulling Back
Celebrity relationships often become loudest when the career machine is loudest.
Grande and Alvarez are doing the opposite.
The relationship is becoming clearer just as she prepares to become less publicly available.
Sources quoted by People have described the couple as close while also saying they are taking things slowly. That is a much quieter narrative than the all-consuming celebrity romances Grande experienced earlier in her career.
Perhaps that is the point.
The tour ended with Grande celebrating the fans, the music and the version of herself that was able to enjoy performing again.
Then, tucked inside the celebration, came a kiss from someone who has already lived through one chapter of the Ariana Grande story.
This time, he appears to be staying for the next one.
